While many would be familiar with Malala, Kailash Satyarthi‘s story is still somewhat unknown to many. It’s wonderful to see his work finally receiving attention from around the world with the Nobel Peace Prize award. Unlike Malala, Kailash did not have a best selling book or any fancy campaign to promote awareness on his work which is what makes his award extra special.
The Nobel Prize website attributes their award “for their struggle against the suppression of children and young people and for the right of all children to education”. Satyarthi is the seventh Indian to win the Nobel peace prize and was described as “little known” in India by the Hindustan Times, a leading Indian newspaper.
